|Welcome to Larson Angus Ranch, located in Sharon Springs, Kansas – thank you for your interest in our program. In 1988, we began raising registered cattle, choosing the Angus breed believing they were the most trouble-free cattle that had the most to offer and great potential in our environment. Our goal from the start was to build a herd of truly trouble-free cattle, requiring no assistance at calving, no assistance at nursing, would wean a high-percentage of the cow’s body weight and perform well in the feedlot and on the rail.
Over the years, Larson Angus Ranch has worked to build a foundation of functional females, with generations of stacked pedigrees for calving ease, docility, carcass merit and structural soundness. To achieve this, we have utilized Artificial Insemination at our operation from the very beginning. Additionally, we began ultra-sounding and collecting carcass data in 1996, and later developed an embryo transfer program in 2000. Implementing technology has helped Larson Angus Ranch progress our genetics and select animals that prove themselves on the hoof and in the cooler.
Larson Angus Ranch has increased in size over the past 26 years, from 20 Angus cows to more than 600 Registered Angus cows today. Prior to 2007, we marketed just
|under 1,400 head of our own fat cattle through U.S. Premium Beef< http://www.uspremiumbeef.com>, all averaging 11% Prime, 35% Certified Angus Beef and 87% Choice. In 2011, we were proud to have marketed a group of 231 steers that graded 48% Prime, 98% Certified Angus Beef or higher and 100% Choice, approaching us to 3,000 head of our own fed cattle marketed through U.S. Premium Beef.
With all of this in mind, our philosophy is ultimately to please our customers and the end-consumers with a high quality product. We accomplish this by running moderate framed cows that are good-footed, fertile, docile and maintain great udder quality. Our cows are expected to raise a calf and keep up her body condition, even in western Kansas. Finally, the calf needs to perform and grow efficiently, resulting in a target harvest of a Prime, Yield Grade 3 beef.
We invite you to increase your bottom line with Larson Angus genetics. If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email us. We appreciate your interest in our program and the opportunity to service your bull and replacement heifer needs.
